Midland tradie and his lady claim $1 million Lotto win

A Midland tradie and his lady have come forward to claim $1 million in prize money from the weekend’s Saturday Lotto draw.

The winning ticket was purchased at Midland Gate Lottery Kiosk and contributes to the $106 million collected by Division 1 winners in WA this year.

“It’s a bit embarrassing but I was actually on the toilet when I realised we’d won,” the husband said.

“I was scrolling through Facebook and saw that the winning ticket had been sold at Midland Gate so I yelled out to my missus to see where she’d got our ticket from,” he said.

“I’m just glad I was sitting down when I checked the winning numbers,” he laughed.

The man’s wife said she hadn’t slept a wink since finding out that the couple were Midland’s missing millionaires.

“Every half hour, I’d jump up out of bed – heart racing – to check that the winning ticket was safe and sound,” the wife said.

“I recently lost my job so this ticket is completely life-changing for us,” she added.

Lotterywest spokeswoman Chloe Lawler said the win comes just hours out from the nation’s largest Powerball jackpot for the financial year.

“The countdown to tonight’s $50 million Powerball jackpot is well and truly on,” Ms Lawler said.

“It’s expected jackpot fever will peak this afternoon between 4pm and 5pm when almost 580 tickets will churn out of Lotterywest terminals each minute,” she said.

“The draw is not only expected to deliver thousands of WA winners – tonight’s jackpot is also expected to generate around $7 million for the WA community,” Ms Lawler added.

Players have until 6pm this evening to purchase tickets from Lotterywest in-store, via Play Online or by downloading the app.
