Luckiest Powerball revealed in lead up to $40 million jackpot

Just one day out from tomorrow’s $40 million Powerball jackpot, Lotterywest has revealed the luckiest Powerball number over the last year.

“Seven has been the most popular Powerball number drawn six times,” said Lotterywest spokesperson, Pina Compagnone.

“This is followed by the numbers nine and ten, each drawn five times.”

To take out tomorrow night’s $40 million jackpot, a player needs the seven winning numbers drawn from 35 (barrel A), plus the winning Powerball number drawn from 20 (barrel B).

Ms Compagnone said recent changes made to the Powerball game last month have helped to deliver bigger jackpots more often, and more overall winners.

“The introduction of Division Nine to Powerball has improved the overall odds of players picking up a Powerball prize from 1 in 78 to 1 in 44,” Ms Compagnone said.

“In fact since it was introduced to the game a month ago, more than 270,000 extra WA players have shared in almost $3 million worth of prize money,” she added.

The $40 million jackpot is the result of no matches to the Powerball’s winning numbers plus the Powerball over the last five weeks, and it’s the second largest jackpot to be offered across Australia this year.

WA last struck Powerball luck in March when a single mother of two took home a $20 million prize after purchasing her winning ticket from The Mall Newsagency in the Perth CBD. It’s the largest WA win this year.

Powerball tickets are available until 6pm tomorrow from Lotterywest in-store, online or via the app.

Players are encouraged to play responsibly and spend only what they can afford.

The cost of a ticket can be shared by joining with family, friends or work colleagues to form a syndicate.
