Lotto win brings magic to Greenfields couple

After an anxious 10 day wait, WA has welcomed its newest Saturday Lotto Division 1 winners – a lucky retired couple from southern suburb, Greenfields.

“When I realised we’d won I pulled out a special bottle of bubbly from the cupboard and put it in the fridge for a celebration drink,” said the man.

“My husband was so calm but I couldn’t believe it!” said the woman.

The couple plan to share their $674,052 prize with family and keep a bit for themselves.

“We’ve been very lucky, it’s just magic. We like travelling and we’ve always gone economy, now it might be business class! We can live the dream,” they said.

The winning ticket was sold at Nextra Forum West Newsagency in Mandurah where the winners have frequented for the past 11 years.

“We are long term players and plan to keep playing. Rather than waste our money on other forms of gambling we play Lotto because it goes back to charity,” said the woman.

Nextra Forum West Newsagency’s store owner, Glenn Cornish, said his customers are happy to know someone local has won.

“This was our third Division 1 win in two years. After our last lot of big wins things quietened down but the wheel has reached the top of the cycle again so now’s the time to get a winning ticket!” he said.

But it’s not just our winners who get to celebrate after $283 million was given back to the WA community through Lotterywest Grants last financial year.

In January a Lotterywest Grant of $3.9 million was given to the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) towards the construction of a new hangar and head office facility in Jandakot. The grant will help the RFDS to provide a greater level of service and health care to West Australians.
