Pensioner picks up retirement home with Lotto win

The first of two weekend Saturday Division 1 Lotto winners has come forward to collect over half a million dollars in prize money.

The pensioner from Dayton said he was determined to crack the odds of winning Division 1 in the hope he could deliver Kenwick Village News – the outlet he religiously purchases from – with their first big winner.

“I told the owner one day – you’ve had this store for over 20 years and I’m going to be your first big winner,” he laughed.

The Dayton local said his winning plan was to randomly select a range of numbers to play each Saturday – a strategy he was positive would deliver him the big win.

“They weren’t anything special – not birthdays or anything like that – just numbers that jumped out at me,” he said.

“It only took me about six tickets before I cracked it,” he added.

The retired pensioner said his Lotto win meant that, at the age of 75, he could stop renting and buy his own home.

“I’ve got enough to buy a retirement home and help a few close family members that need some financial assistance,” he said.

Lotterywest is still waiting to hear from the other weekend Division 1 Lotto winner, who purchased their ticket from Palmyra Supa News.

There are plenty more opportunities for punters to add their name to the millionaires Lotto list – starting with this Saturday’s $21 million Superdraw.

“Last year 81 Superdraw millionaires were produced – and we’re hoping WA will produce a few more following this weekend’s Superdraw,” Lotterywest spokesperson Pina Compagnone said.

“We’ve already greeted six Division 1 Lotto winners this year – so our Winners Room is well and truly warmed up,” she added.

Tickets to this weekend’s Superdraw are available until 6pm on Saturday 10 February from Lotterywest in-store, online or through the app.
