- Premier officially opens refurbished playground at Morgan John Morgan Reserve
- New play equipment supported by an $80,000 Lotterywest grant
- Part of a $195,000 reserve upgrade by the Shire of Mundaring
Premier Colin Barnett today officially opened the refurbished Morgan John Morgan playground in Glen Forrest.
The popular family destination, known locally as the 'Train Park' because of its landmark train carriage play structure, was refurbished with the support of an $80,000 Lotterywest grant to the Shire of Mundaring towards new play equipment.
Additions include swing sets, an activity net, a noughts and crosses play piece, musical pipes, a combination play unit with slide, climbing frames and a sandpit. The popular train equipment has been retained.
Mr Barnett said the revitalised park was the result of strong community leadership which had breathed new life into a significant community asset. "The Glen Forrest Residents and Ratepayers Association, together with the Shire of Mundaring and Swan Hills MLA Frank Alban, have driven this project and worked together to ensure this playground has the modern amenities and equipment to maintain its popularity with visitors and locals alike," he said.
"I visited the park a couple of years ago and this refurbishment shows how people getting involved in their local communities can improve the lives of people for the better."
The total cost of the project was $195,000, with the shire contributing the balance of funds.
The addition of new play equipment completes a staged upgrade to the reserve by the shire which has included the installation of new reticulation, improved drainage and turf.
