Ex-serviceman takes out $1.3 million Lotto win

An ex-serviceman from the Perth hills has been revealed as Western Australia’s newest Lotto millionaire following the sale of the State’s eighth Division 1 winning ticket for 2017.

The self-described battler has pocketed more than $1.3 million in prize money after his Mum purchased the Saturday Lotto ticket as a gift.

“After being in the defence force for most of his adult life, he starts a new job this week,” the man’s Mother said.

“I bought him the Lotto ticket as a good luck gesture and to remind him how proud I am to be his Mum,” she added.

The man said he thought something was wrong when his Mother frantically called him into the lounge room on Sunday morning.

“She could hardly speak through her tears,” the man said.

“She kept pointing to the thirtieth game on my Lotto ticket – the very last one,” he added.

The man said the pair then used the Lotterywest website to confirm the six winning numbers on the last row of his 30 game Slikpik.

Lotterywest spokeswoman Pina Compagnone said the winning ticket was sold at Nextra Express in Ellenbrook and was the second Division 1 winning ticket sold by the retailer in less than two months.

“We’ve averaged two Division 1 winners per week since ringing in the New Year,” Ms Compagnone said.

“That equates to eight newly minted millionaires sharing in more than $10 million in prize money,” she added.

Ms Compagnone said Lotterywest hoped WA’s Lotto luck would continue with Tuesday’s $30 million OZ Lotto jackpot.

“We’re delighted that someone who has given so much to their country has been rewarded with a Lotto win,” Ms Compagnone said.

“With $30 million up for grabs tomorrow night we hope to change the life of another deserving West Australian,” she added.

Tickets for tomorrow’s OZ Lotto jackpot are available from Lotterywest in-store, through Play Online or by downloading the app.

Punters have until 6pm on draw day to purchase their tickets.
