Bassendean tradie claims $1 million windfall

A tradie from Bassendean has woken up as a newly minted millionaire after coming forward to claim $1 million in Wednesday Lotto prize money.

Still wearing her hi-vis workwear, the tradie approached Lotterywest HQ late on Thursday afternoon with the winning ticket safely stored in her lunchbox.

“I’ve checked and rechecked this ticket about 100 times,” the woman said.

“My partner thinks I’m nuts but I’m pretty sure I’ve won the Lotto,” she added.

The tradie’s ticket was soon confirmed as the nation’s only Division 1 winning ticket for Wednesday Lotto.

Sold at Swan Lotteries Kiosk, the winning ticket marks the 40th Division 1 win for Western Australia so far this year with punters now sharing in over $93 million in prize money.

With $20 million up for grabs in tomorrow’s Saturday Lotto Superdraw, Lotterywest spokeswoman Chloe Lawler said the State’s winning streak meant the organisation was experiencing unprecedented ticket sales.

“We’re expecting to sell around three quarters of a million tickets in tomorrow’s draw,” Ms Lawler said.

“As a State we have an extraordinary history of making millionaires and with $20 million on offer, it’s not surprising our retailers are experiencing a flurry of excited customers,” she added.

Ms Lawler said it was expected support for the Superdraw would generate around $3.6 million for the WA community.

“It’s a win/win when you play with Lotterywest,” she said.

“If you’re not walking away with some money in your back pocket, the WA community is with about a third of every dollar spent on our games returned to benefit the State,” she added.

Tickets for tomorrow’s $20 million Saturday Lotto Superdraw are available until 6pm on draw day in-store, through Play Online or by downloading the Lotterywest app.
