‘I’d like a proper telescope.’ Freo geologist claims astronomical win

A geologist from Fremantle has come forward as the second winner from last weekend’s Saturday’s Lotto Division 1 draw after his wife purchased the winning ticket from Woolstores Lottery Centre & News in Fremantle.

The man, whose wife told him the System 7 Slikpik ticket was worth only $2,500, remained stony faced when he found out he would actually be pocketing almost $1 million in prize money.

“I work with rocks a lot so I’m not very expressive,” he said

“I think I’m still in shock! I’m just the messenger,” he added.

While the other winner from the weekend – a bachelor from Roleystone – said he’d be celebrating his win in front of a new 55-inch TV, the Freo man has set his sights much higher.

“I’d like to buy a proper telescope,” he said.

“I had one as a kid but it was rubbish,” he added.

“That’s if I get to spend any of it – my wife will probably give me the last 59 cents of the $983, 728.59,” he laughed.

Besides making childhood dreams come true, the recently unemployed man said that the money would allow him to shoot for the moon in his career.

“I can be pickier and choose a job that I’m passionate about,” he said.

“And, who knows, I used to dream about going back to university,” he added.

With the ‘$85 million Mega Holiday Bonanza’ announced today, Lotterywest spokeswoman Pina Compagnone said that next week has three stellar draws on the horizon.

“It all kicks off on Tuesday with $30 million OZ Lotto Jackpot, followed by a $25 million Powerball jackpot and finally the $30 million Megadraw on Saturday night – so punters are more excited than ever,” she said.

“I think a lot of lucky Western Australians will be seeing the inside of our winner’s room before the year is out,” she said.

Grab a $50 combo pack for our $85 million Mega Holiday Bonanza in-store from your local Lotterywest retailer. The pack will give you a ticket in all three draws.
