Mandurah couple’s lucky numbers pay off

A retired couple from Mandurah have come forward to claim over half a million dollars in prize money from last Saturday’s Lotto draw.

The self-confessed creatures of habit divulged that it was their own numbers system that led to their winning Systems 8 ticket.

“We’ve been playing Lotto for 40 years and we’ve been playing our favourite numbers the whole time,” the husband said.

“They’re numbers that have special meaning to us – like good dart board numbers and old house numbers,” he added.

Their lucky Lotto routine also meant they didn’t have to wait long to find out they were Western Australia’s latest Division 1 winners.

“I always check the numbers online after dinner and there it was – bang!” he said.

“I was gobsmacked and she was bawling and carrying on,” he added.

The couple claims the winning ticket, purchased from Miami Newsagency in Falcon, is their ticket to a stress-free retirement.

“We’ve always had to be cautious about how much we spend – but this puts that to bed!” he said.

“I guess the trick to winning is faith in your own numbers!” he laughed.

Only one month into the year – WA’s tally of Division 1 Lotto winners has already reached four.
Lotterywest spokesperson Pina Compagnone said she was hoping for more stories like this after next week’s $21 million Saturday Lotto Superdraw.

“It just shows you that it’s never too late to become a winner,” Ms Compagnone said.

“And with an incredible $21 million on offer next Saturday – we’re sure to be hearing from more WA winners before long,” she added.

Tickets to next week’s Superdraw are available until 6pm next Saturday 10 February from Lotterywest in-store, online or through the app.
