WA Men’s Shed Conference
For almost 20 years, Men’s Sheds have helped members build some great friendships along with lots of impressive projects. They offer retired gents (aged 55 and older) an opportunity to tinker away at everything from rocking horses to the restoration of old cars. A strong focus for the groups is men’s health and the venues provide an informal setting for a bit of casual discussion over a cuppa. Health experts often attend shed meetings to share some helpful advice with members.
With 154 sheds listed with the WA Men’s Shed Association throughout the State, the recent WA Men’s Shed Conference ‘Beyond Tools’ offered an opportunity for the members to get together and gain a perspective of what’s happening amongst their neighbours within WA and to discuss sheds further afield.
A recent Lotterywest Grant helped subsidise the cost for country shed members to attend. This helped share information all around WA to help advance the planning and implementation of Men’s Shed projects.
A Lotterywest Grants team hosted an exhibition stand at the conference to spread the word about Lotterywest grants. James Wild, Grants Manager said “It was great to hear how our grants have helped the Men’s Sheds make a lasting difference to the health and well-being of men in our community”.
