Clowning around to lift kids spirits
Clown Doctors do the ‘clown rounds’ four days a week at Princess Margaret Hospital, dosing their patients with entertainment, fun and laughter.
Clown Doctors are highly skilled professional performers who deliver ‘humour therapy interventions’ for children in hospital, helping to distract them, reduce anxiety and uplift spirits.
Lotterywest has supported the WA Clown Doctor program with over $200,000 in grants so it can continue its valuable work, which touches the lives of over 10,000 kids each year.
Melinda Farrell, CEO from The Humour Foundation, spoke about the importance of the program:
“The Clown Doctors program in the Princess Margaret Hospital has become an integral part of the hospital community. We deliver a special kind of medicine that assists a sick child’s emotional healing and empowerment,” she said.
