What can we support?

Grants are provided to help people record and share their history. This may be the history of people living in a particular place or may focus on a community of interest. It can also cover the history of an organisation, activity or event and its importance to our State.

We support costs such as researching, writing, and producing the history.

Examples of what our grants have helped include:

  • Tracing the development of a significant event or movement e.g. an oral history of the conservation movement in WA, or a book telling the history of club cricket in Perth
  • Preserving of an Aboriginal language and culture e.g. recording Aboriginal songs, dances and dreaming stories
  • Documenting the history of an organisation or significant event e.g. printing a centenary history of a club, or a project examining the social upheaval resulting from the movement of Aboriginal people from cattle stations
  • Sharing past contributions and labour e.g. documenting the contribution made by women to the various arts disciplines
  • Capturing the history of people living in a particular town e.g. transcribing oral stories from the community

  • Community benefit and significance
