Lotterywest Grant to Encourage Greater Community Use of XYZ Centre

The XYZ Community Centre has been awarded a Lotterywest grant of $13,000 towards the cost of computers and outdoor play equipment.

The XYZ Community Centre is a 'not-for-profit' community organisation that offers a broad range of services to the XYZ community, including child care, playgroups, migrant English classes, beginner computer courses, and craft and hobby courses.

XYZ Community Centre Chairperson, Susan Brown said that the grant for computers would enable many more members of the community to learn basic computer skills.

'At the moment we only have four computers and so only a few people can attend each course', she said.

'The new computers will give lots more people the opportunity to attend these popular courses.'

The grant for outdoor play equipment will be used by the six different playgroups - including a new group specifically for Aboriginal children - that use the Centre.

The Lotterywest Grant will be presented to the XYX Community Centre by the Member for XYZ, Ms Anna Palazzo during a special open day at the Centre.

Date: Tuesday, 9 September 2003
Time: 9.30 am - 12.00 noon (10.00 am for cheque presentation)
Venue: XYZ Community House
Community Street, XYZ

The local community will be invited to visit the Centre for the cheque presentation. There will be a sausage sizzle and activities for children.

Photo ideas: Children using the new play equipment;
Our oldest participant is 86-year-old Mrs Ruby Francis, who is doing a computer course so she can receive emails from her family in Broome. Mrs Francis could be photographed at a computer or at the play equipment with some of the children.
