Where the Money Goes

In 2008/09 we sold lottery products totalling over $725 million.  So how does the money spent on our games benefit Western Australia?

60% of the money spent on Lotterywest products goes in prizes to our players.  Last year West Australians won prizes totalling over $406 million, including 85 lucky players who won a division one Lotto prize.  For some of the stories behind the big wins check our media releases.

Lotterywest’s operating costs account for around 6% of our sales income and another 8% goes in commission to the Lotterywest retailers who sell our games.

We have no shareholders and apart from the prizes to our players and our operating costs, all the money spent on our games is returned to the Western Australian community.  Public hospitals, sporting organisations, arts groups and thousands of charities and community groups are the biggest winners of all from our business.
