Royal Perth Hospital Newsagency sells $2 million winning ticket

A WA Lotto player who purchased a ticket in the weekend's Saturday Lotto draw at the Royal Perth Hospital Newsagency is set to boost their bank balance by a cool $2 million.

The Division One winning ticket sold by the Hospital Newsagency was one of two tickets nationwide to share in the draw's $4 million Division One prize pool.

When Lotterywest spoke to Newsagency owner Mairead Notargiacomo this morning, she said that news of the win was creating a buzz around the hospital.

"The customers and hospital workers are all chatty about it," she said.

The last time the Royal Perth Hospital Newsagency sold a Division One winning ticket was in 2004, when a 14 person syndicate of workers from the hospital shared in a $10 million OZ Lotto windfall.

Ever since Lotterywest was established in 1933, the state's public hospitals have been amongst the most important beneficiaries of its funding.

In fact, WA's public health service is by far Lotterywest's biggest 'winner', with 40% of the proceeds from lottery sales in the state directed to hospitals and health services. Last financial year, this was a record of $107.1 million.

Players are reminded that due to the Eastern States recently changing to daylight saving, the draw close off time for each Lotto game is now 5pm.
