"Welcome home sister, you've won $2.5 million"
A northern suburbs woman has received the ultimate 'welcome home' gift - a $2.5 million Division One prize on a Lotto ticket her sister had purchased on her behalf.
While on an overseas holiday with her husband, the woman had forgotten to purchase a ticket in the $20 million Saturday Lotto Superdraw on 12 September. She decided to text message her sister to ask her to buy a 25 game Slikpik in the draw on her behalf.
As asked, the sister bought the ticket from Kingsway City Newsagency in Madeley. It was only days later that she realised it was a Division One winner.
The sister decided to keep the winning news from the woman until she arrived home a short time ago. She greeted her at the airport and then immediately drove her to Lotterywest head office where she broke the news.
"I wondered why I got an extra good hug at the airport," said the woman, who was still in a state of disbelief.
When asked what her plans are for spending the $2.5 million prize, the woman was set on sharing the money.
"I'll definitely be going halves with my sister - if it wasn't for her buying the ticket for me, I wouldn't have won," she said.
32 cents in every dollar spent on Lottery games in WA is directed back to WA health, sports, arts and a large number of community groups and events including the Kings Park Wildflower Festival, which runs until the end of September.
