$4 million birthday surprise rings wedding bells for Perth man
A man from Perth's southern suburbs received an unforgettable 50th birthday gift on the weekend; a winning Saturday Lotto ticket worth over $4 million.
The man, who told Lotterywest that he had never bought a Lotto ticket for himself in his life, was given the 30 game Slikpik as a birthday gift from his partner's father.
The ticket almost went unchecked until this morning when his partner's father called to remind him to check it, after reading in the newspaper that the winning Saturday Lotto ticket was sold at Archer Street Newsagency in Carlisle.
Describing himself as a "keen lawn bowler", the man was slowly coming to terms with his new found fortune when interviewed by Lotterywest.
"This really does mean that we can do some of those things that we've only ever dreamed about," he said.
"After 10 years, I'll finally be able to afford a wedding to marry my partner."
The man also explained that the prize money would mean that the whole family could now afford to attend his daughter's wedding in the UK later in the year.
Along with the wedding plans, he said the prize money would allow him to enjoy an early retirement, lots of travel as well as help his family out.
When asked how he intends to celebrate the win, the man said that celebrations with family and friends would continue well into the night tonight.
32 cents in every dollar spent on Lottery games in WA is directed back to WA health, sports, arts and a large number of community groups and events including the Kings Park Wildflower Festival, which runs until the end of September.
