Superstitious Lotto player believes number 9 will bring Superdraw luck
Ahead of Saturday's $20 million Superdraw, staff at Good Fortune Lottery Centre in Maddington were left stunned yesterday by a Lotto player with superstitions surrounding the number nine.
The man walked into the retail outlet to buy a ticket for this Saturday's $20 million Superdraw at exactly 9.01am yesterday, the 9/09/09.
Staff member Gloria King proceeded to put his ticket request through the lottery terminal, however she was quickly stopped by the man, who was adamant that they wait until exactly 9.09am to print out his ticket.
Ms King said that the man told her the number nine was very lucky for him.
"He told me the number nine is a very lucky number, and I'll be really interested to see if he wins," she said.
"As soon as we printed his ticket out, I printed one out for myself and my staff!"
Research says that the 9/09/09 was the last of the single-digit dates for 1001 years. What's more, the words 'Wednesday' and 'September' are each made up of nine letters.
Tickets for Saturday's $20 million Superdraw will be on sale at Lotterywest retail outlets around the state until 6pm on Saturday.
WA Lotto players are encouraged to play responsibly. The cost of a ticket can be shared by joining with family, friends or work colleagues to form a syndicate.
32 cents in every dollar spent on Lottery games in WA is directed back to WA health, sports, arts and a large number of community events including the Kings Park Wildflower Festival, which runs until the end of September.
