Breakfast results bring man close to tears

A retired man from Perth's hills area got a sweet surprise with his breakfast when he checked his Saturday Lotto ticket against results in Sunday's paper.

"I saw five numbers and I had five numbers last week in OZ Lotto and I almost cried" said the man who thought he was "so close" but yet so far from winning Division One.

When he checked again though, he saw what he had been waiting for; all six winning numbers. This time he was again close to crying - tears of happiness!

The married man said he had been playing Lotto regularly "all my life" and would share his $686,704.09 prize with family and take a European holiday with his wife.

The couple had shared news of their win with their family over a celebratory dinner last night.

The man said he didn't buy his ticket from his regular outlet, but while he was out enjoying a long walk, decided to drop into Swan View Newsagency and buy a System 8.

"It was the best walk I've ever had in my life!" said the winner.
