Lotto win a change of luck for Leeming winner

A married man in his 50's from Leeming has ended a run of "bad luck" by claiming a $685,486.45 Lotto win from the weekend.

The man said he had experienced some back luck with tradesman recently when carrying out some modest renovations to his home.

While some work had been completed, the man was disappointed with the quality of the end result.

To add to his concerns, he had only recently been told by other tradesman that some unexpected problems had been discovered with his renovation plans. The problems meant his costs would skyrocket; completely blowing the small amount of money he had saved and set aside for the project.

"It was really getting us down" said the winner of the effect of the estimated cost blow-out on him and his wife.

"On Saturday morning we were so peeved about the whole thing we thought we'd take our minds off it and go to the shops.  My wife normally buys the Saturday Lotto tickets, but while she was off at another shop, I said I'd buy the Lotto."

While his wife normally buys a Slikpik 18 ticket, the man opted for a Slikpik 25 in what turned out to be a wise choice; the winning numbers came from line 23 of the 25 game ticket he purchased at Leeming Lottery Centre and Newsagency.

The man confirmed his winning status this morning when he had his ticket checked by Leeming Lottery Centre and Newsagency owner, Colin Doyle.

The winner said the prize money would mean that his renovations would finally be complete and to a standard he was happy with.

He would share some of the money with his family and would also take a holiday. He planned to continue working.

The man said he never thought he would win Division One Lotto;

"I just thought the odds were too great!" he said.

There were two WA Division One winners from the Saturday Lotto draw; the other winning ticket was sold at Lakeside Lottery Centre in Joondalup.
