Young couple celebrate love and Lotto win on $3.25 ticket

19 August 2008

A young couple in their 20’s from Alexander Heights have won a $739,713 Division One prize in Saturday Lotto on a ticket they bought together to celebrate their seven year anniversary last Friday.

The couple chose their own “random” numbers for their six game Lotto ticket which cost them just $3.25.

The excited couple said they’d heard radio news reports yesterday that a Division One Lotto prize was still outstanding on a ticket bought at The Lucky Charm in Mirrabooka.  It prompted them to check their ticket last night when they realised they had all the numbers to win Division One.

“Mortgage-free was my first thought” said the man who described himself as a “thrill seeker.”

A new wakeboard and a boat were on his shopping list.

“It’s the Boat Show this weekend so if I see something I like I can write a cheque without it bouncing!” said the man.

He also planned on spending some of the money on flying lessons to get his pilot’s license:

“To get your license is quite expensive and before (the win) I couldn’t justify the expense” he said.

The woman said she was looking forward to buying a new car and an investment property with her fiancée.  She had made some enquiries just days earlier about getting a loan for the property;

“I was basically told I was dreaming, but now, I could pay cash for it!” she said, delighted.

The couple, who are engaged and have set a date for their wedding, agreed they were financially savvy for their age and hoped the Lotto win would mean they could stop working relatively early in life.

“I want to be smart about it” said the man of making the prize money last for their future.

Lotto tickets at a range of price points are now on sale for this Saturday’s $19 million Superdraw.
