Kisses and hugs from Wednesday’s million dollar man
15 August 2008
The hands of WA’s newest Lotto millionaire were shaking late yesterday afternoon as he signed the paperwork to claim Wednesday Lotto’s $2 million Division One prize.
The winner, who bought his System 8 ticket from Westgate News in Fremantle, had only found out moments ago that he was the only Division One winner in the nation from Wednesday’s draw after checking his ticket back at Westgate News.
“I didn’t even notice all the balloons and the sign about them selling a Division One winner when I came in” he said. When he asked how much money he had won, the retailers subtly nodded towards their Division One decorations.
At that point emotion took over and the staff at Westgate News were on the receiving end!
“I gave them a big hug and a kiss” said the winner who is in his 40’s and lives in the “Fremantle area”.
The man had been doing his grocery shopping when he checked his ticket and had intended to head home to cook dinner.
“I’ve completely lost my appetite now!” he said.
The man said his celebrations last night would be “low key”.
“A couple of rellies are popping over” he said.
Spending plans for his lottery win included buying a house and going on holiday.
Lotto players have an extra incentive to buy a ticket in Saturday night’s draw. In a rare occurrence, the game has jackpotted, doubling the Division One prize from $4 million to $8 million.
